DETROIT (AP) — Plans are moving forward to distribute up to about $12 million to victims of a Detroit-area doctor who misled people into believing they had cancer.
The Detroit News reports court-appointed facilitator Randi Roth will begin meeting in two months with victims and family members to finalize information about how to apply for compensation.
A website and hotline will be set up.
Dr. Farid Fata was paid millions of dollars by insurance companies while poisoning more than 500 people through needless treatments.
He was sentenced in July, months after pleading guilty in Detroit federal court, and is appealing his 45-year prison sentence.
The update on the restitution process came last Thursday in federal court in Detroit. Fata and his attorneys waived their rights to attend.
Another update is expected March 28.
