The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will conduct a panel discussion as a kickoff to Wrongful Conviction Day on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 4 to 5:50 p.m. at the Detroit Mercy Law atrium, 651 E. Jefferson in Detroit.
This panel discussion will feature Valerie Newman, director, Detroit Mercy Law Conviction Integrity Clinic; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Kevin Cox; attorney Gabi Silver; and exoneree Richard Phillips.
The panel will discuss the experience of Phillips who was convicted in Detroit in 1972. His conviction was vacated 45 years later.
