Judges to be honored at JBAM awards ceremony


The Jewish Bar Association of Michigan (JBAM) will host its Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Somerset Inn, 2601 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy.

During the event, the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Champion of Justice Award will be presented to Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Lorie Savin and the Avern Cohn Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to U.S. District Court Judge Mark Goldsmith, Eastern District of Michigan.

The evening will also honor JBAM Vice President Jordan Zuppke, of Zupac Law, with the JBAM Volunteer of the Year Award and Amanda Igra with the Charles J. Cohen, Esquire Law Student Scholarship will be awarded to Hannah Passer.

The event includes one drink and strolling dinner. Kosher food also available.

Early bird registration (before May 10) is $50 for JBAM members and $65 for non-members. After May 10 is $60 for JBAM members and $75 for non-members. Judges can attend for free. To purchase tickets, visit  www.jewishbar.org and click on “events.”

Nominating petitions due April 30 for 2024 SBM election



Candidates interested in running for the State bar of Michigan’s Judicial Tenure Commission, Representative Assembly, Board of Commissioners, or Young Lawyers Section Executive Council must submit their nominating petitions no later than April 30.

Nominating petitions are available online. The full State Bar of Michigan 2024 Election Notice, which details vacancies and petition requirements, can be found in the March issue of the Michigan Bar Journal and is also available online.

Petitions should be submitted via email to csharlow@michbar.org.

To vote in the 2024 election, all active members of the State Bar of Michigan will receive their ballots via email by June 1 and ballots must be cast online by 11:59 p.m. June 17. To ensure receipt of a ballot and notifications about the election, SBM members should make sure their current email address is on file at michbar.org/MemberArea.

Commencement ceremony planned for Class of 2024



The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will celebrate the graduating class of 2024 at the Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 10, at 2 p.m. in Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus of University of Detroit Mercy.
