‘We the Defenders’ conference hosted at WSU Aug. 12-15


The National Association for Public Defense (NAPD) will present “We the Defenders” on Monday through Thursday, August 12-15, at Wayne State University, 471 W. Palmer Ave. in Detroit.

“We the Defenders” is the conference for public defense investigators, mitigation specialists, social workers, paralegals, and other core staff – all roles except attorneys – who play a critical role

Grant opportunity for courts explored online July 26


The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Services will present a webinar on “Multi-Systematic Therapy Programming (MST): Grant Opportunity” Friday, July 26, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

Colin Parks from the Michigan Depart­ment of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will be presenting on a funding opportunity for eligible courts that may have interest in implementing Multi-Systematic Therapy (MST) programming in their jurisdiction.

In this webinar, Parks, along with the program’s collaborative partners from Mid-Michigan Industries (MMI), will discuss with viewers:

• A brief overview of MMI’s work, its efficacy in keeping kids out of residential care, as well as opportunities to expand similar MST programming for more juvenile justice youth and families.

• A funding opportunity for courts, along with shared experiences from two courts currently utilizing the funding opportunity.

Law school hosts Happy Hour in Ferndale, Aug. 13


Wayne State University Law School and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will host a Happy Hour for an end of summer celebration at Urbanrest Brewing Company on Tuesday, August 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Wayne Law alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends will gather at Urbanrest Brewing Company located at 2615 Wolcott St. in Ferndale.
