Summer Cookout hosted by alumni


The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Association of Black Law Alumni (ABLA) will host the 4th Annual ABLA Summer Cookout on Saturday, August 17, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Detroit Mercy Law alumni, current students, and friends of ABLA are invited for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and fun. Guests will enjoy tasty grilled summer fare, great conversations, music, games, and more.

The Cookout will take place in the Student Parking Lot at Detroit Mercy Law, 651 East Jefferson in Detroit.  

Tickets are free. A minimum $10 donation or more is appreciated. All proceeds support the David Williams II ’82 & Gail Carr Williams ’83 Endowed Scholarship Fund to support Black law students.

Law school’s Legal Briefs program to feature dean



On Wednesday, August 7 at 5:30 p.m., Wayne State University Law School will present its latest Legal Briefs program online featuring Richard Bierschbach, dean and John W. Reed Professor of Law. Bierschbach is an award-winning teacher and a leading scholar of criminal law and procedure.

During this program, Bierschbach will share insight for the upcoming academic year and updates within the realm of legal education. After his remarks, Bierschbach will answer questions from guests.

The Legal Briefs program highlights current legal content for alumni, students, and friends of Wayne Law. This virtual event is hosted and moderated by the law school's development and alumni affairs team. The program’s total run time is about 1 hour, which includes presentation time and an opportunity for guests to ask questions and connect in dialogue.

Federal Bar plans Bench/Bar Golf Outing for Aug. 8


The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will host its Annual Bench/Bar Golf Outing on Thursday, August 8, at Northville Hills Golf Club, 15565 Bay Hill Drive in Northville.

Participants can join the federal bench and bar in a day of golf and socializing. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by golf with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.  

Golf costs $850 per foursome and $225 per single golfer which includes golf and an early dinner. For those attending the dinner only, the cost is $75.
