Clinical sexologist to present guide to risk assessment Oct. 4

The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) will conduct the webinar “Clinical Sexologist’s Guide to Risk Assessment” on Friday, October 4, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

What counts as “normal” sexual behavior? How can one tell when a fetish is a problem? And how does one explain the nuances of BDSM-style power exchange versus coercive power and control to a jury who might not be comfortable talking about sex at all? In this session, attendees will hear from Stefani Goerlich, a leading expert in BDSM/kink and mental health, who will go through her process of kink-affirming risk assessment and give the language to debunk some of the most common myths and misconceptions about niche sexualities that finders of fact often bring into their deliberations.

After the program, attendees will be able to:

• Explain the difference between IPV/DV and domestic violence.

• Define prosocial sadism and differentiate it from antisocial personality disorder.

• Describe at least three behaviors that are indicators of risk in erotic minorities.

• Describe at least three barriers to justice that kinky survivors experience.

• Define BDSM and describe its component parts.

Cost for the webinar is $100 for CDAM members and $125 for non-members. To register, visit https://cdam.wildapricot.org.
