Volleyball team hoping to generate momentum

The Climax-Scotts varsity volleyball team entered the new week hoping to generate some momentum for the postseason as the regular season winds down.

The Lady Panthers, who faced Heritage Christian October 22 and hosted a crossover match October 24, close out the regular season with a home match against Galesburg-Augusta October 28 and at Delton-Kellogg October 29.

C-S will host the districts November 4, 6 and 7. Battle Creek Calhoun Christian, Battle Creek St. Philip, Marcellus, and Marcellus Howardsville Christian will be in the district besides C-S.

The top seeds are seeded and then using a formula the rest of the bracket will be set. The brackets will be revealed October 27.

The Lady Panthers shook off a home loss to Mendon October 15 two days later by posting a win over Calhoun Christian at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

C-S won all three games by double digits over Calhoun Christian October 17, 25-11, 25-14, 25-6.

Holly Talbert enjoyed an overall strong game with 10 kills and 10 digs. Lylah Parrish had a team high 11 digs to go with five aces. Ashlynn Gilbert led the team with 31 assists and added eight digs and four aces.

C-S Falls to Mendon

The Climax-Scotts varsity volleyball team fell to Mendon in three sets (10-25, 16-25, 20-25) October 15.

Lylah Parrish had a team high 20 digs, Adalynn Reeves led the team in kills with six, and blocks with three, Ashlynn Gilbert had a team high 13 assists to go with 15 digs and Sophie Braithwaite added 12 digs and four kills.

C-S 7th grader places first at Athens invite


Congratulations to Climax-Scotts seventh grader Blake Morrison for placing first at the Athens Middle School Invitational October 16.

Morrison recorded a time of 13:02.78 in the two-mile boys middle school race.

Battle Creek St. Joseph won the event with 24 points.

C-S did not have enough runners to score as a team in the middle school girls race.

Both the Panther girls and boys cross country teams had one runner participate in the high school race.

Athens won the event with 23 points and Colon had 34 points.

Zachree Roebuck, with a time of 27:06.46 in 18th place, was C-S’ lone participant in the boys race.

Dalyn Bogard, who finished sixth with a time of 26:54.65, was the only Panther runner in the girls race.

Pittsford was the only school with enough runners to score as a team, finishing with 15 points.

C-S had two runners compete in the a middle school event held at Bangor October 19.

C-S was the only Division 4 school competing at the meet.

Blake Morrison earned a medal with a 20th place finish and Jaxon Marlowe had a season best time for a two-mile run.

Both the C-S high school and middle school runners will compete in the regionals October 15 at Portage Central High School.

High School runners will have an opportunity to qualify for the Division 3 and 4 State Finals November 2 at 9:30 a.m. at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Cross Country Finals qualification will include a minimum of seven individual qualifiers from each Regional race. All individuals receiving a top 15 medal at the regionals qualify for the Individual State Finals. If
the number of individual medalists is less than seven, then the additional qualifiers (up to seven) will be taken from the individual runners following 15th place.

C-S Teams Compete in SCAA Championships


Both the Climax-Scotts boys and girls cross country teams competed in the SCAA Championships October 12 at Hayden Park hosted by Hillsdale Academy.

Hillsdale Academy won the boys race with 15 points on the strength of occupying the top five spots. Athens finished second with 57 points and Colon finished third with 69 points. Zachree Roebuck was the
only runner for C-S in the boys run, finishing 50th with a time of 26:42.29.

C-S freshman Dalyn Bogard was C-S’ only participant in the girls race, finishing 20th with a time of 27:13.08.

Hillsdale Academy won the girls race with 18 points, followed by Pittsford (53) and Burr Oak (66).

C-S seventh grader Blake Morrison placed fifth out of a field of 50 runners in the 1.5-mile boys middle school race, posting a time of 9:08.58.

Hillsdale Academy won the middle school boys race with 10 points.

C-S did not have any participants in the middle school girls race, won by Hillsdale Academy with 22 points.
