Oakland County adoptive families, Tuscola judge, Westland couple to be celebrated on Adoption Day

The Michigan Supreme Court  will host its 22nd annual Adoption Day event—a special court session that will include adoption finalizations from Oakland County and an awards ceremony for honorees within the child welfare system.  The event will take place Monday, November 18, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing. The livestream will be available on the court’s website.

Following adoption finalizations, the program will include the presentation of the 2024 Daniel J. Wright Lifetime Achievement Award to Tuscola County Probate/Family Court Judge Nancy L. Thane and the 2024 Maura D. Corrigan Foster Family Lifetime Achievement Award to longtime foster parents Willie and Tammy Roman of Westland.

Held near Thanksgiving each year in celebration of National Adoption Month under the theme of “Giving Thanks for Families,” Adoption Day has become a holiday tradition, highlighting the importance of adoption and the needs of children in foster care to find a forever family.  Many courts will publicly finalize adoptions, while others will hold informational events to reach potential adoptive parents.
