Status conference scheduled for April 17 in homicide case

By Bruce Rolfe

An internal status conference in the Village of Climax homicide case has been scheduled for April 17 according to Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Williams.

According to court documents, Adam Gerard Lyons, of 120 North Main Street, Climax, was charged with open murder for the alleged killing of Nichole Doerschler, two weapons and felony firearm charges and one charge of killing/torturing an animal in the third degree at an arraignment hearing October 29.

Williams said the court is still waiting for a Center for Forensic Psychology (CFP) report.

The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney said in December the attorney for the Lyons filed a notice of intent to seek an insanity defense.

Williams adds once the Center for Forensic Psychology report is received, if either party disagrees, they can ask for a second, independent psychological evaluation, he said will cause another significant delay.

The case has been assigned to Judge Paul J. Bridenstine in the  9th Judicial Circuit Court, in Court 5400.
