Warren man sentenced after pleading no contest to shooting roommate, hiding body

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that a 26-year-old Warren man was sentenced after pleading no contest to charges related to the shooting death of his roommate and hiding of the body.

On May 19, 2025, Donald Dawan Renfroe pled no contest to charges of Second-Degree Homicide, Tampering with Evidence, Concealing the Death of an Individual, and Felony Firearm.

On Monday, July 7, 2025, Renfroe was sentenced by Judge Anthony Servitto in the Macomb County Circuit Court. Servitto sentenced Renfroe to 31-60 years for Homicide – 2nd Degree, 5-10 years for Tampering with Evidence, and 2-5 years for Concealing the Death of an Individual. These three sentences will be served concurrently.

For the fourth charge of Felony Firearm, Renfroe was sentenced to 2 years to be served consecutively to his other sentences. Renfroe also received 711 days credit for time served.

Renfroe pled no contest to events that occurred on June 8, 2023 related to the shooting of his roommate, 27-year-old James Wilkins, in their Warren apartment. Renfroe, along with an accomplice, Darius Glenn, concealed the crime. Wilkins was later reported missing. Soon after, Warren Police detectives found evidence in the apartment that indicated a shooting had taken place there. Wilkins’ body was discovered five months later with information provided by accomplice Glenn.
