Warren woman charged after child shoots self in hand

Macomb County authorities have announced that Daniellys Villegas-Moreno, 24, of Warren, was arraigned on a safe gun storage charge after a child allegedly shot himself in the hand with an unsecured and unlocked handgun.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, Jan. 20, a three-year-old child shot himself in the hand with a weapon that was not secured in a safe nor equipped with a gunlock. The child is in stable condition.

Villegas-Moreno, the child’s mother, was arraigned Tuesday before 37th District Court Judge Michael Chupa in the 37th District Court.

Chupa set Villegas-Moreno’s bond at $10,000 cash/surety. As conditions of bond, she cannot possess, use or be in the presence of firearms, she must wear a GPS tether upon release, and she cannot leave the State of Michigan. She faces a probable cause conference on Feb. 10.
