Warren man bound over as charged, accused of felonious assault and animal torture

Macomb County authorities say 42-year-old James Vigneau, of Warren was bound over as charged on felony counts alleging that he committed an armed assault on two people and stabbed the family’s dog.

It is alleged that on Sunday, May 17, Vigneau was asked to leave the Warren home of some friends after he made inappropriate comments.

He pulled out a knife and slashed it toward a man and his daughter.

The family dog came to protect his owners and Vigneau stabbed the dog two times in the mouth and once in the nose. The dog suffered nonfatal injuries.

Last Thursday, Vigneau’s preliminary exam was held before Judge Steven M. Bieda in the 37th District Court in Warren.

At the conclusion of the exam, Bieda bound Vigneau over on the following charges:

Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree, a 7-year felony

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony

Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor.

Vigneau will be arraigned before Judge Joseph Toia in the Macomb County Circuit Court on June 15.
