Pryder Cup returns to Macomb

Among those enjoying the day on the links were (pictured from left) Justin VandeVrede, Mike Gemmete, Pat Derkacz and Macomb County Probate Court Judge Aaron Hall.

Golfers from the Macomb and Wayne County Probate Bar Associations faced off recently in their annual Pryder Cup competition. Participants say the weather was perfect for this year’s event at Gowanie Golf Club in Harrison Township.

Members of the team from the Macomb County Probate Bar association prevailed, winning three matches to two and returnng the trophy to its place at probate court.

Others taking part in the yearly friendly competition were Farrah Ramdayal-Howard (left) and Pam Kroll. Ramdayal-Howard and Dave Howard hosted the event.

Leading the charge for the MCPBA were the winning twosomes of Judge Aaron Hall and Justin VandeVrede, Pam Kroll and Farrah Ramdayal-Howard, and Dave Forest and Dave Howard.

Justin VandeVrede won the men’s closest to the pin honors while Dave Howard was recognized for the men’s longest drive.

The event started in 2007 and is modeled and named after the Ryder Cup.

Walter Sakowski from Wayne County and Bob Szalka from Macomb County originally came up with the idea of an annual softball game between the two groups, which was played for many years before switching over to the Pryder Cup.

In 1996, a trophy was awarded for the wining softball team and the trophy is now awarded to the winning golf team, as Sakowski and Szalka decided to switch the competition from softball to golf in order to get more association members involved.

Judge Hall is pictured showing his winning form during last month’s competition.
