Tips & Tools, Trust Account webinars offered in October

The State Bar of Michigan is offering two webinars in October to help Michigan attorneys perform their best.

In the Tips and Tools for a Successful Practice webinar, set for October 6, attorneys can learn how to maintain client relationships, draft effective fee agreements, analyze ethical issues, and use innovative techniques and technology for effective law office management. 
The seminar is an opportunity for solo practitioners and new lawyers to obtain ethical guidance and practical information from experienced colleagues. The webinar runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and pre-registration is required. The cost to attend is $50. To learn more and register, visit the Tips and Tools website at www.michbar.org/tipstools.

The Lawyer Trust Accounts webinar is set for October 27 and will focus on the ethical management of lawyer trust accounts — including how to process client or third-party funds as well as an in-depth look at recordkeeping requirements. This webinar is an opportunity to receive practical information regarding MRPC 1.15 and 1.15A. This webinar is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon. Registration costs $25. Law school to conduct Annual Red Mass Sept. 22

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law invites the legal community to celebrate the 114th Annual Red Mass on Tuesday, September 22, beginning at noon at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, 438 Saint Antoine in Detroit.

Red Mass is an occasion for judges, attorneys, civic leaders and law students of all faiths to come together and pray for blessings and strength in the coming year’s work. A luncheon reception in the atrium at Detroit Mercy Law School immediately follows the service.

This year’s Red Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger, Archdiocese of Detroit. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Stephen J. Murphy, Eastern District of Michigan, will lead the Renewal of the Lawyer’s Oath of Commitment.

Detroit Mercy Law’s annual Red Mass dates back to 1877, when Detroit College, as the university was then known, began its first year with a Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church. The School of Law continued the tradition when it opened in 1912, again hosting the Red Mass on behalf of the Archdiocese of Detroit at Ss. Peter and Paul through the present.
