Eastern District of Michigan to recognize Constitution Day with public reading of the Constitution and Bill of Rights
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will mark Constitution Day with a public reading of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights at the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse in Detroit at noon today.
The event, organized by the Court's Civics Initiative, will take place during the lunch hour. Judges and members of the Court community will participate as readers, with each person reading for approximately five minutes, or until reaching an appropriate stopping point.
Constitution Day is observed annually on September 17th to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787. In 2026, the observance marks the 239th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.
U.S. District Judge Terrence G. Berg, who leads the Court's Civics Initiative, organized the event as an oppo1tunity for the Court community and members of the public to celebrate the Constitution and foster appreciation for the Nation's founding document that establishes the framework of our federal government and protects individual rights.
The Eastern District of Michigan's Court Civics Initiative actively encourages public understanding of the federal courts and the Constitution through educational programs and community engagement.
The reading will be held on the Lafayette steps of the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette Blvd., Detroit, Michigan 48226 at 12 noon. A microphone will be provided for the readers, and members of the public are invited to attend. The complete reading is expected to take approximately one hour.
Lunch & Learn hosted at Oakland County Courthouse
The Jewish Bar Association of Michigan (JBAM) will conduct a Lunch & Learn event Wednesday, October 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Judicial Conference Room of the Oakland County Circuit Court, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd. in Pontiac.
Hosted by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Lorie Savin, the program will feature Rabbi Caytak who will share inspiring insights relevant to attorneys’ professional and spiritual lives. Kosher lunch will be provided free of charge courtesy of Steve Reina.
