Women’s Bar Book Club to meet via Zoom Oct. 13

The Women’s Bar Association (WBA), Oakland County region of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, will present  its first meeting of its Literary Ladies Book club for the 2026-2027 season online Tuesday, October 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and kick off the autumnal and October season, the group will be reading and discussing “The Bewitching” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. In the book, three women in three different eras encounter danger and witchcraft in this horror saga from the New York Times bestselling author of Mexican Gothic.

Specialized Investigative Child Abuse Training offered in Detroit

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, Child Abuse Training Services, in cooperation with the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council, and the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) is pleased to present a cross-professional Specialized Investigative Child Abuse Training on the topics of “From Evidence to Justice: Investigative Strategies & Case Study Insights.” This training will take place on Thursday, October 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Detroit Police Training Center, 6050 Linwood St. in Detroit.

The training is designed to strengthen the approach to investigating and prosecuting cases involving delayed disclosures and recantation of sexual abuse cases.

This session will explore the complex dynamics behind delayed disclosure, victim recantation, and non-initial disclosures — providing practical, evidence-based strategies to support victims and build stronger cases. 

Topics include:

• Understanding why victims delay disclosure – psychological, emotional, and situational factors.

• How to effectively investigate delayed disclosure cases.

• Corroborating evidence in delayed disclosure cases – identifying, gathering, and presenting it at trial.

• Addressing delayed disclosures during trial and effectively explaining them to a jury.

• Handling victim recantations in already charged cases- investigative & prosecutorial considerations.

Participants will walk through a detailed case study involving a child sexual assault investigation, analyzing investigative strategies, evidence development, and trial presentation techniques.
