Western Wayne Regional Behavioral Treatment Court celebrates 7 grads 

The Western Wayne Regional Behavioral Treatment Court celebrated the accomplishments of seven graduates during a graduation and recognition ceremony held Friday, September 11, at the 29th District Court in Wayne.

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard H. Bernstein was also in attendance to recognize and celebrate the graduates and their accomplishments.

The Regional Behavioral Treatment Court provides eligible participants with judicial supervision, treatment, accountability, and community-based support to help address behavioral health and related needs while meeting court requirements.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize the dedication and perseverance of the graduates as they reached this significant milestone.

The court extends its appreciation to the families, treatment providers, staff, community partners, and everyone who contributed to the success of the graduates and the program.

ABA virtual program to preview upcoming Supreme Court term

The American Bar Association’s Division for Public Education and the American University Washington College of Law will host the virtual program, “On the Docket: Looking Ahead at the New Supreme Court Term,” on Tuesday, September 29, from 1 to 2 p.m. via Zoom.

Panelists will discuss what to expect when the U.S. Supreme Court reconvenes on the first Monday in October. Issues before the court this new term include immigrants' rights, environmental protection, voting rights, labor rights, LGBTQI+ rights and public funds for religious schools.

The panelists are 

• Erwin Chemerinsky, dean, University of California, Berkeley, School of Law; 

• Gregory G. Garre, partner, Latham & Watkins; 

• Richard Hasen, professor, University of California, Los Angeles; 

• and Kimberly Atkins Stohr, columnist, Boston Globe.

Stephen Wermiel, professor of practice in constitutional law at American University Washington College of Law, will moderate the discussion. He is a longtime observer and commentator on the Supreme Court. As a former Supreme Court reporter for The Wall Street Journal, Wermiel covered Supreme Court decisions and analyzed legal trends for 13 years.
