A Climax Village Council trustee was sentenced October 19 in the Calhoun County 37th Circuit Court.
According to court records, Village Council trustee Benjerman Moore was charged with controlled substance possession of methamphetamine and a weapons ammunition possession by a prohibited person March 5, 2026 by the Battle Creek Police Department.
Moore’s court appointed attorney Alex Starr said Moore plead guilty to the controlled substance possession of methamphetamine charge and the weapons ammunition possession by a prohibited person charge was dismissed.
At the October 19 sentencing, Judge John A. Hallacy sentenced Moore to 75 days in jail with credit for 45 days. However Moore’s court appointed attorney said Moore will enter a patient treatment facility and won’t serve the additional 30 days in jail. Hallacy said once the treatment program is completed any jail time will be suspended.
Moore will be on probation for 18 months, however Hallacy said Moore will be eligible for early discharge from probation once he has completed probationary programming. If he hasn’t violated probation in the preceding three months he can request to be discharged early.
Moore was elected to the Climax Village Council in November, 2024 to a partial term ending November 30, 2026.
