Juvenile probation officer/caseworker certification exam offered online

The Michigan Judicial Institute and will conduct the Juvenile Probation Officer/Caseworker Certification Examination on Thursday, February 23.

Michigan Supreme Court Administrative Order 1985-5 requires a juvenile [court] probation officer/caseworker to complete the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) certification training within two years of employment.

The examination is based upon information in the MJI Juvenile Probation Officer/Caseworker Self-Instructional Manual.

The exam is now a computer-based application, however, applicants must still pre-register to take the exam for only one time slot: 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.

Closer to the exam date, applicants will receive additional information regarding accessing the State Court Administrative Office Learning Management System where the exam is housed.

To register for the online exam, visit https://mjieducation.mi.gov and scroll down to “upcoming MJI events.”  The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17.


SOLACE program helps SBM members with critical needs

SOLACE Network is a program coordinated by the State Bar of Michigan designed to help members of the legal community or their immediate families who are in critical need because of a recent, sudden catastrophic illness, injury, or event.

All members of Michigan’s legal community, regardless of income or assets, are eligible to receive assistance from SOLACE. This includes Michigan judges, lawyers, court personnel, paralegals, legal assistants, legal administrators, law students, and their immediate families.

When a need arises, members of the SOLACE Network are notified by email. If anyone from the Network can help and wants to help, SOLACE facilitates getting assistance to those in need. More than 16,000 members of Michigan’s legal community are a part of the SOLACE Network. Individuals are welcome to join, and organizations are also invited to become SOLACE partners.

Women’s Bar hosts Bar Briefs event

The Women’s Bar Association (WBA), Oakland County region of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, will host Bar Briefs on Wednesday, February 8, at Deer Lake Inn.

Attendees will gather at 6 p.m. for an informal happy-hour style networking event. There is no need to pre-register.

Deer Lake Inn is located at 7504 Dixie Highway in Clarkston.
