The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Foundation (WLAMF) recently hosted its 2015 Reception for Education and Community Leadership at the Great Lakes Culinary Center in Southfield. This year’s reception focused on “Toasting Education of Dynamic Women” featuring (left to right) Michigan State University College of Law Dean Joan Howarth and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Dean Phyllis Crocker.  Also featured at the event was Wayne State University Law School Dean Jocelyn Benson (not pictured). Among those welcoming the deans to the event were WLAMF President Dawn Van Hoek (far right) of the State Appellate Defender Office and State Bar of Michigan President Thomas Rombach (second from right). The WLAMF’s primary mission is to support the education of women who show leadership in advancing the position of women in society.  Founded in 1983, the WLAMF reorganized in 1997 around this mission, realized annually through scholarship awards to outstanding women law students attending Michigan law schools.  Since 1997, the foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to 215 women law students.
