School to generate solar power for DTE Energy

FARMINGTON HILLS (AP) -- DTE Energy Co. says it's signed a 20-year agreement with Mercy High School in Farmington Hills for installation of solar power collectors at the suburban Detroit campus. DTE says the system is part of its SolarCurrents program, which provides renewably generated power to electrical customers. The company says it's installing a 400-kilowatt, $2.5 million photovoltaic system using 125,000 square feet of roof on the high school. DTE says the solar array should start operating this fall. DTE says it expects to spend about $2 billion to add 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy in coming years.
