Meijer case charges won't be brought in Kent Co.
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- The Kent County prosecutor says he won't bring charges after getting information about an investigation stemming from retailer Meijer Inc.'s campaign activities.
Earlier this month, Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Alan Schneider said perjury may have taken place during a 2007 deposition in Grand Rapids for a civil lawsuit, but that was out of his jurisdiction. He didn't bring charges and information was passed to Kent County prosecutors.
Kent County Prosecutor William Forsyth told The Grand Rapids Press for a recent story that imprecise and ambiguous questioning was at issue.
Meijer funded a 2007 attempt to recall the Acme Township Board over a zoning dispute. Meijer had been arguing with local officials over its plans for a store.
The state of Michigan fined Meijer more than $190,000 for violating campaign laws.
