Strip club owner gets one year in prison in tax case

ANN ARBOR (AP) -- A Detroit-area strip club owner has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for defrauding the federal government on his corporate taxes. U.S. District Judge John Corbett O'Meara gave Nicholas Faranso his sentence last Thursday in Ann Arbor. Faranso also must serve two years of supervised release and pay $6,000 in restitution. Prosecutors had sought 37 to 46 months in prison, claiming more than $574,000 was skimmed from Faranso's clubs in 2003 with a software program that removes portions of actual sales from a computerized sales system. They also accused him of claiming pet store purchases for the family dog as deductions for fetish toys on his taxes. Faranso, of Farmington Hills, pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge.
