Holly celebrates America with Patriot Week Festival

The first ever Patriot Week Festival is set to take place on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17, in downtown Holly. The free fun will include live music, patriot presentations, and a beer tent on Friday from 4 to 1 p.m. and again on Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday's event also features a Patriot Parade at 10 a.m. with 12- year-old Patriot Week co-creator, Leah Warren, as the grand marshal. Saturday will also include a Community Play Day from noon to 5 p.m. "We salute Holly for leading the country by hosting the first ever Patriot Week Festival," remarked Patriot Week co-creator, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren. "As a free people, we have a solemn duty to protect our liberties by understanding the foundations of our freedom, and the Patriot Week Festival will be an entertaining, but very meaningful way, to renewing the American spirit." "I'm thrilled to have the honor to be the grand marshal," stated Leah Warren. "I invite everyone to come out and have a great time celebrating and learning about America." A grassroots effort created in 2009 by Judge Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah, Patriot Week was declared by the State Senate and State House as a week of remembrance. The dates of Sept. 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist attacks) through Sept. 17 (the anniversary of the signing of the United State Constitution), frame the week intended to reinvigorate our appreciation and understanding of those First Principles--the rule of law, unalienable rights, equality, the Social Compact, limited government, and revolution.
