The commission was created by Governor Snyder through an executive order issued on October 13th. The commission will investigate how to improve legal representation to low-income criminal defendants in Michigan and make recommendations to ensure that all criminal defendants receive effective assistance of counsel consistent throughout the state.
O'Brien has served on the Oakland bench since 1998. She currently serves as the chairperson of the Michigan Judges Association Corrections Committee and is treasurer-elect of the organization.
