Wayne Law faculty votes to adopt SBM's Pledge to Achieve Diversity
The Wayne State University Law School faculty voted at its October meeting to adopt the State Bar of Michigan's Pledge to Achieve Diversity and Inclusion.
"A commitment to diversity is part of the very fabric of this law school, and adopting this pledge is a tangible way of expressing it," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "The opening of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights and our increased work in the areas of public interest and social justice law are among the many ways we are advancing this commitment."
The pledge notes that "diversity and inclusion are core values of the legal profession, and that these values require a sustained commitment to strategies of inclusion." It concludes, "Therefore, we pledge to continue working with others to achieve diversity and inclusion in the education, hiring, retention, and promotion of Michigan's attorneys and in the elevation of attorneys to leadership positions within our organizations, the judiciary, and the profession."
