Legal Aid and Defender to honor judges at Laddys
Two Wayne County Circuit Court judges, Timothy M. Kenny and Edward Ewell Jr., will receive Ed Pokorny Pioneer of Justice awards from Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) during its inaugural Laddys pro bono service awards ceremony tonight.
Kenny has served on the court since 1996 and currently is the presiding judge of its Criminal Division. LAD President and CEO Deierdre Weir cited him for his work on the Wayne County Mental Health Court "that has diverted so many defendants from the usual criminal justice path and guaranteed them the treatment and proper medication they truly need."
Ewell has served on the court since 2003. Weir cited him for "your work in the creation and implementation of the Drug Court within Wayne County Circuit Court."
