Macomb County planning to launch veterans court in 2012
MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- Macomb County circuit and district courts plan to start a Veterans' Treatment Court early next year.
Circuit Judges Mark Switalski and Tracey A. Yokich and District Judges Stephen Sierawski and Carrie Fuca have been working on the project.
Other participants include the John Dingell VA Medical Center, County Prosecutor Eric Smith and Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.
Switalski said in an email Tuesday that the project aims to offer a "specialized treatment court docket focusing on substance abuse and mental health treatment."
He says participating courts will retain their own cases but share procedures and protocols, a mentor support system and defense attorney lists.
