Blended sentence for teen in Lansing murder case
LANSING (AP) -- A youth who helped abduct and kill a 19-year-old Lansing woman when he was 13 has been sentenced to stay in a juvenile facility until he's 21, at which point his sentence will be reassessed.
Ingham County Judge George Economy gave the 15-year-old Lansing boy the so-called "delayed sentence" last Friday. It keeps him institutionalized but delays the decision on whether to send him to an adult prison.
In 2010, the boy, his father and other men entered Shayla Johnson's home and kidnapped her. They threw her into a car trunk and shot her multiple times.
Authorities say they wanted access to her boyfriend's marijuana plants.
The boy was convicted of murder.
The youth's father and four others are charged in federal court. Two others pleaded guilty.
