Bullard testifies before legislators on money saving election reform
On Wednesday, May 2, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard Jr. testified in front of the Senate Committee on Local Government and Election in regard to H.B.4992 to amend Michigan Election Law.
Specifically, this bill would change the statute which requires that voting instructions are printed on every ballot, and in revision would prescribe that the instructions be moved to the privacy sleeve given with each ballot.
In testimony Bullard remarked, "This would in absolutely no way change fingertip access for every voter to instructions as to how to cast their ballot. Printing the instructions on the privacy sleeve ensures that every voter is presented with all needed information on how to properly cast their ballots."
Bullard added, "What this change represents is fiscally responsible updates to ballot printing procedures. The removal of the bulky instructions from the ballot will save space and in turn printing costs. In Oakland County to run a ballot with an additional page would cost the taxpayers an estimated $300,000 per election. This represents significant potential savings."
