Treasurer achieves major financial credential

The Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APT US&C) recently announced that Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner has received the professional credential of Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA) upon completion of a rigorous curriculum covering every major aspect of the treasury management profession. "On behalf of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada, I am pleased to award you the professional credential of Certified Public Finance Administrator," said Blinda A. Baker, chair of the CPFA Certification Committee and Treasurer of East Tawas, Michigan. "This honor reinforces the primary purpose of APT US&C--to elevate the level of knowledge of public finance and enrich the performance within the treasury management profession. Congratulations on your outstanding accomplishment." Over the past three years, Meisner completed coursework and training in the areas of investment management of public funds, technology, monetary and fiscal policy, cash management, debt policy, pensions, and internal controls. Courses were taught by practitioners of finance, investment, and treasury management from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. "Maintaining the high level of excellence people expect and deserve from Oakland County government requires hard work and a relentless focus on staying ahead of the curve," said Meisner. "Achieving my Certified Public Finance Administrator credential is just one way of mastering my work as County Treasurer and keeping Oakland County in a position of national leadership." Meisner's predecessor, Pat Dohany, a former Certified Public Finance Administrator and past president of APT US&C, encouraged Meisner to pursue certification during the transition in administrations in July of 2009.
