Judge denies Detroit consent agreement lawsuit
DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit judge has denied another challenge to a consent agreement between Mayor Dave Bing and the state.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Amy Hathaway last Thursday denied a lawsuit by three Detroit union members. Thy say the agreement was invalid because the state owes Detroit back state revenue sharing and other money.
That also was argued in an earlier lawsuit by Detroit Corporation Counsel Krystal Crittendon. An Ingham County judge said then that Bing didn't authorize Crittendon to sue.
Hathaway says Yolanda King, Yvonne Ross and Rose Roots also didn't prove the state owes Detroit the money.
Bing says in a statement that the "consent agreement process isn't perfect," but it was the "best option" to keep the state from appointing an emergency manager over Detroit's finances.
