Consumers Energy reports usage records
JACKSON, Mich. (AP) -- Consumers Energy says its 1.8 million electric customers used more energy this summer than at any time in the Michigan utility's 125-year history.
The subsidiary of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. recently said that improvements in Michigan's economy and high temperatures drove power demand.
Consumers Energy says records set on its system this summer include the highest hourly customer demand peak of 9,006 megawatts set on July 17. They also include a record for highest electric sendout by Consumers Energy for any month of 4.6 million megawatt-hours set during July.
Both records topped previous marks set in July 2011.
