Innovation and IP Legal Writing Competition now open to all law students in Michigan
The Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School Graduate Program in Intellectual Property Law have announced that they are co-sponsoring the third annual Michigan Innovation and IP Legal Writing Competition. The competition seeks to recognize outstanding original works of legal scholarship in the fields of intellectual property and innovation law. The competition is open to all law students in Michigan.
The competition is open to students enrolled in J.D. degree programs at any ABA-accredited Michigan law school between Jan. 1, 2012-May 1, 2013. Individuals wishing to participate in the competition must submit their work electronically no later than May 15. Cash prizes being awarded include: first place, $500; second place, $300 and third place $200. In addition, each of the top three will have their work published in the IPLS Proceedings journal and receive their choice of complimentary registration for an IPLS intellectual property seminar or symposium.
"The Intellectual Property Law Section sponsors the writing competition to encourage law students throughout the state to engage in legal scholarship in intellectual property and related areas of the law," said Anna Budde, IPLS Council chair and a patent attorney at Quinn Law Group PLLC. "This area presents a variety of topics of interest to law students, including patent, trademark, and copyright law, social media, emerging technologies, and privacy. The IPLS hopes that the competition will inspire our future IP lawyers to explore these important issues in greater depth."
"Cooley is pleased to be a co-sponsor of this year's competition," said David C. Berry, professor of law at Cooley's Auburn Hills Campus and the co-director of Cooley's graduate IP program. "Intellectual property law is a popular subject in law school, and an important issue for the region's economic competitiveness. We are excited to be able to help recognize law students who have conducted original research in the field."
