Rehab center run by U-M star loses lawsuit

DETROIT (AP) -- A judge has ruled in favor of Detroit in a dispute over a residential rehab center for recovering drug users. Federal Judge Robert Cleland says a group called Get Back Up "does noble work," but he found nothing illegal Monday with the decisions of Detroit's zoning appeals board. Get Back Up took over an abandoned school in a business district, but the zoning board heard complaints from residents and rescinded a permit. Critics said a man getting treatment was caught shoplifting, and women complained of harassment on Dexter Avenue. The center has remained open during the litigation, and the judge suggested he might suspend his decision pending an appeal.
