Oakland County officials announce Curbing Gun Violence Report and online feedback survey

On Wednesday, July 17, the Curbing Gun Violence Report was presented to the full Oakland County Board of Commissioners and filed at the meeting. Oakland County Commissioner and Public Services Committee Chairman Bill Dwyer presented the report. The Curbing Gun Violence Report was created after a five-part series of informational hearings was held with the information gathered and findings being compiled. The series hearings were held by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' Public Services Committee and were webcasted and recorded. Dwyer and Commissioner Marcia Gershenson will continue their bipartisan effort, as specified by resolution MR#13017, to Examine How Oakland County Citizens Are Protected From Gun Violence by encouraging the public to go online to read the report and provide feedback. The information is online at www.oakgov/boc, click on the report and survey link to offer insight. Dwyer stated: "There are no easy answers to the difficult questions that the committee examined. The recommendations contained in this report are not meant to be a wholesale solution for the prevention of gun violence in Oakland County. They do, however, offer significant insights into current practices and offer some suggestions for improvement." As a 48-year law enforcement veteran, Dwyer expressed, "I have personally felt and seen the effects of gun violence. As elected officials, we are charged to protect public safety and welfare. On behalf of the committee, we would like to thank the Board of Commissioners for this opportunity to look closely at this critical issue that goes to the heart of that charge."
