Focus: HOPE event renamed after co-founder
DETROIT (AP) -- An annual Focus: HOPE fundraising event in Detroit is being renamed after one of the civil and human rights organization's founders.
Focus: HOPE said Tuesday that "Eleanor's Walk for Hope" will be held in Detroit on Oct. 13.
The event celebrates Focus: HOPE's 45th anniversary.
Eleanor Josaitis and the Rev. William Cunningham founded Focus: HOPE in 1968 after the 1967 riots that widened the rift between Detroit's black and white residents.
Cunningham died in 1997. Josaitis died in 2011 at age 79.
The organization has job training, a food program for mothers, children and senior citizens, and numerous community development programs.
