Albanian mother facing removal can stay in U.S.

TROY (AP) -- An Albanian mother of three living in suburban Detroit who faced deportation says she can stay in the United States for at least another year. The Detroit Free Press reports that immigration officials granted a "stay of removal" for Cile Precetaj of Troy. She also had a tether removed. Precetaj was ordered to board a plane last week and return to Albania. She defied the order, arguing she had earned the right to live in the U.S. She sought asylum but judge denied her request in 2007. Her husband says she was escaping an abusive fiance and violent culture. Her attorney, Andrew Johnson, says Precetaj will request to stay in the country every year.
