Mich. working through list of escaped prisoners
LANSING (AP) -- A state investigator who cracked the case of a woman who fled a Michigan prison in 1977 says his team may find three or four more escapees from years ago.
Lt. Charles Levens of the Corrections Department says they may not be as easy as finding 60-year-old Judy Hayman, who was arrested this week in San Diego.
Her fingerprints matched prints held by other police agencies. Levens gave the information to co-worker Tim Hardville, who tracked her down in California. Hayman escaped during a 1 1/2 to 2 year prison sentence for attempting to steal clothes.
Levens has a list of roughly 40 escaped prisoners from the 1960s and '70s. He believes he's got some strong leads on three or four, while three others have died.
