One Court of Justice website wins 'Top 10' award
The Michigan Supreme Court announced Tuesday that the One Court of Justice website has received a "Top 10" award from the Forum on the Advancement of Court Technology (FACT). The award is "in honor of courts who are working hard to extend and expand access to public records, court services and information online." Courts at every level of government and internationally were judged in five categories.
"The One Court of Justice website is the front door to Michigan's judiciary," said Chief Justice Robert P. Young Jr. "This award confirms what more than one million users in the last year already know that opening the door means easy and convenient access to court records and other useful information."
Improvements to the website are part of a comprehensive initiative to transform Michigan's judiciary into a more customer-focused institution that is a benchmark for other states.
The site offers a wide variety of information, including court forms, court rules, statistics, and information on judicial branch agencies, such as the Friend of the Court. A directory of trial courts includes such information as whether the court offers online access to court records or allows online payment of traffic tickets. The site also offers links to self-help resources for those who represent themselves in court without an attorney.
Judicial Information Systems, the technology division of the State Court Administrative Office, led the website redesign with input from a team throughout the Hall of Justice. Previously, the website was highlighted in a Microsoft case study that praised the site as "clear, concise, and intuitive" and said that it "offers a consistent, superior user experience on computers and mobile devices." Currently, the site receives approximately one million page views each month by more than 100,000 unique visitors.
The award was announced at the annual meeting of the National Association for Court Management (NACM), the world's largest organization of court management professionals. A special NACM committee, FACT is a consortium of private sector companies and court representatives whose mission is "to improve the quality of justice through communication between those who develop and provide technology products and those who manage courts."
