Ex-Councilwoman Monica Conyers finishes probation

DETROIT (AP) - A federal judge has signed an order ending the probation for ex-Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, the wife of Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers who was imprisoned in a municipal corruption case. Monica Conyers pleaded guilty in 2009 to conspiracy to commit bribery in 2009 and was sentenced to three years, one month in prison. U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn signed an order Wednesday terminating her probation. Monica Conyers admits taking bribes from Houston-based Synagro Technologies in exchange for her vote on a $47 million sludge hauling contract. Conyers entered prison in 2010 and was released to a Detroit halfway house in January in 2012, taking a job with an auto body shop.
