People's Law School sessions continue

Wayne State University Law School's dean and several alumni are among presenters for the People's Law School, programs in East Lansing and Grand Rapids to help the community learn about the legal system.
The programs are sponsored by the Michigan Association for Justice, law firm of Sinas Dramis, and Wayne Law.
A seven-week program in East Lansing began Sept. 9 with a session on Michigan Automobile No Fault Law led by 1975 Wayne Law alumnus George Sinas of Sinas Dramis. Wayne Law 2007 alumnus Stephen Sinas of Sinas Dramis led a Sept. 16 session on Implications of the Affordable Care Act. Other sessions in East Lansing included a Sept. 23 event on Family Law presented by Ingham County Circuit Judge Laura Baird and Jacquelyn Dupler of Sinas Dramis, a Sept. 30 event on Homeland Security & Immigration presented by Cooley Law School Professor Michael McDaniel, and an Oct. 7 event featuring Wayne Law Dean Jocelyn Benson on Election Law.
Upcoming sessions at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, include Capital Punishment in America presented Tuesday, Oct. 14, by Cooley Law Professor Kathy Swedlow and the History of Negligence Law in America presented Tuesday, Oct. 21, by Cooley Law Professor Charles Palmer. Sessions take place from 7 to 9 p.m. for a cost of $7 each.
A five-week People's Law School program at Grand Rapids Christian High School, 2300 Plymouth Ave. S.E., starts Wednesday, Oct. 15, and ends Wednesday, Nov. 12. All sessions are from 7 to 9 p.m.
Registration for the upcoming five-week program in Grand Rapids or for any individual sessions in East Lansing or Grand Rapids can be completed by visiting peopleslawschool.org or emailing jamestuck@michiganjustice.org. The cost for the Grand Rapids program is $20 for the full five weeks or $5 per individual class.
Grand Rapids sessions will be:
- Oct. 15 Rules of the Road: Michigan Auto Law and Bike Law presented by Thomas Sinas and 1992 Wayne Law alumnus Bryan Waldman of Sinas Dramis.
- Oct. 22 Two topics A view from the Bench presented by Michigan Court of Appeals Chief Judge William B. Murphy, a 1970 Wayne Law alumnus, and the Affordable Care Act presented by 2007 Wayne Law alumnus Stephen Sinas of Sinas Dramis.
- Oct. 29 Election Law presented by Wayne Law Dean Jocelyn Benson.
- Nov. 5 Family Law and Estate Planning presented by 2007 Wayne Law alumnus Daniel Borst of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP.
- Nov. 12 Criminal Law presented by Brian Lennon of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP and Jon Durell, a former detective with the Wyoming Police Dpt.
