Settlement ends case over firing at Veterans Administration
FLINT (AP) - A lawyer says a Flint-area woman who was fired after reporting delays in processing claims to the Veterans Administration has been awarded a $250,000 settlement.
Glen Lenhoff says in a statement that Genesee County Circuit Court last Thursday accepted the settlement involving Renee Verbeke of Davison.
Lenhoff says Verbeke worked for a veterans office in Lapeer County and the lawsuit was brought under the Whistleblower Protection Act. Lenhoff says they hope the settlement encourages employees to speak out if they're aware of "deplorable practices and conditions."
The Associated Press left a message seeking comment last Friday from a lawyer listed as representing Lapeer County in the case.
