Novemberfest raises funds for Pets for Vets

The Oakland County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Committee (NLC) hosted its Novemberfest event on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5th Tavern in Bloomfield Hills.

The networking event raised funds for the Pets for Vets Southeast Michigan Chapter.

Among those enjoying the evening were (left to right) Judy Cunningham, NLC director Jacob Cunningham, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Joan Young, NLC director Clarence Dass, NLC Chair-Elect Victoria King, Sandy McDonald, Karen Safran, and NLC Membership Vice-Chair Matthew Wood.

Pets for Vets helps heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by paring them with a shelter dog that is specially selected to match his or her personality.  Professional animal trainers rehabilitate the dogs and teach them good manners to fit into the veteran’s lifestyle.  Training can also include desensitization to wheelchairs or crutches as well as recognizing panic or anxiety disorder behaviors.
