County to offer free Veterans' Resource Fair
Oakland County will host a free Veterans' Resource Fair on Monday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Executive Office Building Conference Center, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford. The county's veterans' benefits counselors and representatives from other organizations will be on hand to offer information and assistance regarding veterans' benefits and other resources available in the community.
"Oakland County wants to ensure that we honor all of our veterans by helping them obtain and maintain all the benefits they've earned serving our country," County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. "Our Veteran's Resource Fair is a one-stop shop for all a veteran may need."
Veterans and their families will be able to obtain information about and receive assistance for:
- VA medical, disability, pension and burial benefits.
- Employment, vocation rehabilitation and education.
- Readjustment counseling.
- Homeless programs.
- Other community resources.
Oakland County Veterans' Services Division serves the more than 70,000 veterans who reside in the county.
"Our mission is to maximize the receipt of veterans' benefits while eliminating or reducing the frustration and confusion that go along with the process," said Garth Wootten, manager of Veterans' Services Division. "Our staff is highly trained, professional, and dedicated to serving veterans and their families."
Admission to the Veteran's Resource Fair is free and no appointment is required. For additional information, go to www.OakGov.com/veterans.
