The bankruptcy community hosted a reception to honor U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Walter Shapero (right) on his retirement, and to welcome to the bankruptcy bench Judge Maria L. Oxholm (left). The reception was hosted on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Rattlesnake Club in Detroit. This event was sponsored by many local bar and civic organizations. On July 1, 2016, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit appointed Maria L. Oxholm as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Northern District of Iowa, effective August 18, 2016. Pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding, Bankruptcy Judge Vacancy Pilot Program entered into between the Judicial Councils of the Eighth Circuit and the Sixth Circuit, Oxholm will have a duty station in Detroit and will sit as a bankruptcy judge in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
