On May 10, the portrait of retired Wayne County Circuit Court Judge William J Giovan (center) was dedicated for display in the courtroom of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David J Allen (left) in Detroit. Also on hand for the dedication was Wayne County Circuit Court Chief Judge Robert J. Colombo Jr. (right). Having retired as chief judge of the court in 2008, Giovan had served 33 years on the Circuit Court, with prior service on both the Common Pleas Court of Detroit and the Recorders Court of Detroit, from as early as 1966. “I am grateful to Judge Allen and the several other circuit judges who asked to have the portrait displayed in their courtrooms, particularly after I thought it might end up in a closet somewhere,” Giovan said. “Actually, I'm honored to have it displayed anywhere in the Wayne County Circuit Court, which is generally recognized as one of the largest and most efficient trial courts in the nation.”
