Towing titan pleads guilty to corruption

DETROIT (AP) — A man who owns towing companies in the Detroit-area has pleaded guilty to bribing a suburban official to get a contract.

Gasper Fiore pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy. He admits giving $7,000 to Dean Reynolds who was a trustee in Macomb County’s Clinton Township. The government says the money was funneled through an executive at a trash-hauling company, who has also pleaded guilty to corruption.

Dan Lemisch, the acting U.S. attorney in Detroit, says Fiore’s guilty plea is a “significant blow to corruption” in southeastern Michigan. Nearly 20 people have been charged, and many have pleaded guilty.

Reynolds is awaiting trial. He’s accused of accepting $23,000 in cash and other bribes.
