U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters last Thursday announced $880,791 in support for Fire Departments across Southeast Michigan. The funds come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.
The Luna Pier Fire Department will receive $73,333 to purchase new equipment and provide training. The Charter Township of Bloomfield Fire Department will receive $292,220 to purchase new equipment and provide training. The Elk Township Fire Department will receive $86,666 to purchase new equipment and provide training.
The Armada Fire Department will receive $428,571 to purchase new vehicles to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public.
“Firefighters across Southeast Michigan put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” said Stabenow. “These new resources will provide critical training and give our first responders the equipment they need to better serve the public and do their jobs safely and effectively.”
“As communities across our state continue working together to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19, our firefighters are navigating even greater risks to their health,” said Peters. “I am pleased that this federal grant will better equip first responders in fire departments across Southeast Michigan to do their jobs more safely and effectively during this unprecedented crisis.”
Eligible fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations in Michigan and across the country can apply for Assistance to Firefighters Grants. These competitive grants help first responders purchase the equipment and obtain the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.
