The Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association will present its “Annual Compliance Seminar—Virtual Experience: How a Virus Changed our Compliance World” on Thursday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
This is the “social distanced” version of the MMLA’s Annual Compliance Seminar that is always well received and attended. It will be a fully interactive and engaging experience with speakers and other activities throughout the day. Topics include:
• Economic Update—Hear from Mike Fratantoni, chief economist for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), as he discusses how the COVID virus and changes in the market have impacted the mortgage industry. Fratantoni will also drill down into Michigan specific trends and statistics. He will also look into his crystal ball and give his forecast on how the
2020 election can impact the economy.
• Loan Officer Compensation—Brian Nettelingham, partner at Maddin, Hauser, Roth, & Heller PC, will share his legal expertise on all things related to Loan Officer compensation. This is an ever-changing topic and Nettelingham is on top of all the regulation changes. His presentation covers the background to the LO Comp rules together with the relevant policy rationales, as well as an overview of key provisions, recent changes, classification of “LOs,” acceptable approaches to
compensation, and a discussion of recent enforcement actions regarding non-compliant plans.
• COVID-related Changes in the Workplace—Transitioning your staff to work from home, now transitioning to bring them back to the office has not been easy. Hear from some leaders as they discuss their experience with bringing employees back to work, remotely managing employees and how vendors and dealing with, reaching customers during social distancing. Brian Nettelingham, Maddin Hauser, will discuss current compliance concerns: Growing Mortgage Fraud, Handling SARS Reports & Info Requests, QM Patch/BC, DR, & Force Majeure/ GSEs, COVID & Foreclosure. Howard Lax, Bodman PLC, will discuss Change of Circumstance, Waiver of Recission and other important GSE and CFPB changes that have resulted during this COVID crisis.
